This annual occasion is an international effort promoted by the United Nations agency ITU (International Telecommunication Union). During this event, Bárbara Ramalho (PhD student from FMH-ULisboa) presented the iPROLEPSIS project and the iPROLEPSIS Games . < BACK iPROLEPSIS launches IDBV Study Aug 21, 2026 Inflammation Digital Biomarkers Validation study begins recruitment on 20 August 2026 Recruitment for the Inflammation Digital Biomarkers Validation (IDBV) study , part of the iPROLEPSIS project, has opened on 20 August 2026. This is a major milestone for iPROLEPSIS. Some people with psoriasis go on to develop psoriatic arthritis, which can affect the joints and tendons. Researchers want to understand whether changes in movement, activity, and symptoms can be detected earlier using digital information collected through a study app. The IDBV study aims to support earlier detection and improve future care. How it works The IDBV study uses the miPROLEPSIS Lite app to passively collect data from participants' smartphones and smartwatches over 12 months. The app tracks movement patterns, activity levels, and device usage — most of it automatically. Participants can also report joint symptoms directly when they experience discomfort. < BACK iPROLEPSIS Games Presented at HiTech Program in Lisbon Jun 27, 2025 FMH/IST-ULisboa team showcased the project’s serious games to investors and health innovation experts On June 26, 2025, the iPROLEPSIS Games were presented during the final pitch session of the HiTech Program , held at the Thalia Theater in Lisbon, Portugal. Representing FMH/IST-ULisboa , Samuel Gomes , Bárbara Ramalho , and Filipa Magalhães introduced the iPROLEPSIS Games to an audience of investors and stakeholders interested in supporting innovative health solutions. < BACK iPROLEPSIS presented to Eli Lilly in the Netherlands Nov 8, 2023 Presentation to Eli Lilly introduces iPROLEPSIS as the next step in personalised psoriatic arthritis care On the 7th of November 2023, Ilja Tchetverikov from CICERO Rheumatology presented the results and prospects of the DEPAR cohort and introduced iPROLEPSIS clinical studies to the representatives of Eli Lilly company in the Netherlands. DEPAR, Dutch south-west Psoriatic Arthritis Registry, is a registry set up by Cicero Rheumatology, a partnership of rheumatologists working in 15 different hospitals in the south-west of the Netherlands. DEPAR, with the participation of well over 900 patients, supports rheumatologists to gain insight into the treatment and course of psoriatic arthritis. The presentation highlighted iPROLEPSIS as a logical next step in the further development of DEPAR, emphasising the project’s vision and aim to explain psoriatic arthritis inflammation through multi-source data analysis, guiding to a novel personalised digital care ecosystem. < BACK Modeling Interphalangeal Joints for Swelling Assessment in Psoriatic Arthritis via Smartphone Photographs Feb 5, 2026 New iPROLEPSIS publication presents a smartphone-based approach for remote joint swelling assessment in psoriatic arthritis A new publication from the iPROLEPSIS project has been published in the proceedings of the 2025 IEEE International Conference on E-health Networking, Application & Services (HealthCom) . The study investigates the use of smartphone photographs to support the remote assessment of swollen joints in patients with inflammatory arthritis, focusing on psoriatic arthritis. The proposed method classifies each interphalangeal joint in hand photographs as swollen or not swollen, supporting scalable and patient-friendly monitoring approaches. < BACK Hot topic debate: preventing psoriatic arthritis in patients with psoriasis Nov 13, 2024 Preventing PsA: Insights from the IFPA-WPPA 2024 Conference Conference IFPA-WPPA 2024 Conference At the 7th World Psoriasis & Psoriatic Arthritis (IFPA-WPPA) Conference , experts discussed whether effective treatment for psoriasis (PsO) could help prevent the onset of psoriatic arthritis (PsA). In this session, Prof. Laura Coates highlighted early intervention as a key strategy for PsA prevention. Supporting these efforts, the iPROLEPSIS consortium, active across Europe, is exploring digital, non-pharmacological tools aimed at improving patient outcomes. These include stress management games designed to offer additional support for people with PsO, focusing on prevention beyond medications alone. Alongside iPROLEPSIS, other studies, including the PAMPA study and HIPPOCRATES Prospective Observational Study (HPOS), are investigating early detection and intervention strategies. Digital tools such as the Psorcast app, along with new apps from iPROLEPSIS, are being developed to monitor psoriasis patients for early signs of PsA. These efforts aim to pave the way for more personalised and preventive care approaches. Abstract Can effective treatment of psoriasis (PsO) prevent the development of psoriatic arthritis (PsA)? In a Hot Topic Debate at the 7th World Psoriasis & Psoriatic Arthritis Conference, Dr. Soriano and Dr. Ogdie, both experts in the field, presented contrasting views based on existing research and clinical studies.1 Dr. Soriano argued that biologic treatments for PsO may reduce PsA risk, citing several retrospective studies. On the other hand, Dr. Ogdie argued that current observational data are plagued by biases, making it difficult to conclude whether biologics play a protective role. The session outlined the complexity of this issue, with both speakers agreeing on the need for prospective randomised controlled trials, such as the ongoing PAMPA study, to provide definitive answers. Prof. Laura Coates added that identifying at-risk patients and intervening early to potentially prevent PsA may point to a strategic research approach to address these unanswered questions. < BACK iPROLEPSIS presented at the MULTIPULM project kick-off meeting Oct 8, 2025 iPROLEPSIS tools to be adapted for clinical studies in Brazil, Serbia, and Türkiye The iPROLEPSIS project was presented during the kick-off meeting of the MULTIPULM project, held on 29–30 September in Athens. iPROLEPSIS partners Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) , Faculdade de Motricidade Humana (FMH) , and Wellics participated in the meeting, which brought together researchers, clinicians, user research experts, and technology providers. Several tools developed within iPROLEPSIS – including the breathing games created by FMH and the biAURA app developed by AUTH – will be further used in MULTIPULM. These tools will be adapted to the local needs of the project’s pilot sites in Brazil, Serbia, and Türkiye, and evaluated in relevant clinical studies. This collaboration demonstrates the adaptability and broader potential of iPROLEPSIS digital tools beyond psoriatic arthritis, supporting research in other chronic conditions. The agenda included: Four workshops External Advisory Board session Clinical studies overview, including PDPID study, Mast cells and optoacoustic-enabled joint and microvascular imaging (iPROLEPSIS-MOJMI) study, HPOS, and iPROLEPSIS integration General assembly session Overview of work packages with progress updates Strategic planning for the next steps. < BACK iPROLEPSIS 8th Plenary Meeting in Athens Jun 10, 2026 Partners met to review progress and align on next steps The iPROLEPSIS consortium held its 8th Plenary Meeting on 8–9 June 2026 in Athens, Greece, hosted by project partners DBC and Ainigma Technologies. Partners reviewed the project's latest progress and aligned on priorities for the coming months. Over two days, the consortium discussed updates across all active areas of the project – from data harmonisation and predictive modelling to clinical study status, platform development, and dissemination and communication activities. Progress on exploitation and regulatory planning was also presented. An External Advisory Board (EAB) session was held, where board members reviewed key project results and provided scientific and strategic feedback. The plenary concluded with a summary of agreed actions and priorities.
