A literature review of PsA symptoms, flare-related factors, monitoring approaches, predictive models and relevant datasets
iPROLEPSIS has published an updated report on the state of the art in psoriatic arthritis (PsA), covering disease symptoms, flare-related factors, monitoring approaches, predictive modelling and relevant datasets.
The report reviews current knowledge on PsA and its heterogeneous manifestations, which can affect physical function and quality of life. It also examines factors that may be associated with disease flares and approaches for monitoring symptoms and disease activity.
Fatigue, pain and stiffness are among the commonly reported symptoms of PsA. While no specific risk factors for flare are currently known, previous literature suggests that flare may be triggered by changes in mood, stress, sleep, bowel movements and environmental factors. Physical activity and motor skills may also be affected as a consequence of flare.
The report reviews clinical and digital approaches for measuring PsA symptoms and related factors. These include questionnaires and clinical assessments, as well as smartphones and wearable devices for monitoring physical activity, fine motor skills, heart rate and heart rate variability. Imaging-based approaches, biological factors and data-driven predictive models are also considered.
