A new iPROLEPSIS publication presents two exergames co-designed with patients and clinicians to support therapeutic engagement in psoriatic arthritis care.


The study introduces The Spy and Zen Forest, exergames that embed therapeutic movements into game mechanics. Psoriatic arthritis requires ongoing physiotherapy and exercise for joint health, but traditional approaches face challenges: patients experience low consistency in participation, high costs, and high dropout rates.


The research involved co-design with 29 participants, including patients diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis, clinicians, researchers, and technical experts. This collaborative approach ensured the games align with clinical goals, address patient needs, and support safe and effective rehabilitation.


In The Spy, players assume the role of a secret agent completing missions that require dynamic full-body movements targeting coordination, mobility, balance, strength, and flexibility. Zen Forest emphasizes slow, controlled movements inspired by Pilates and yoga, designed to improve flexibility, relaxation, and body awareness.


The publication explores how exergames can serve as sources of digital biomarkers – measurable data collected through gameplay including movement quality, repetition patterns, and task performance – that may help researchers monitor patient progress and disease patterns.
