- ChatGPT in Nutrition: Trends, Challenges and Future Directions | iPROLEPSIS
< BACK ChatGPT in Nutrition: Trends, Challenges and Future Directions Jun 27, 2024 Exploring the Role of AI in Shaping the Future of Personalised Nutrition Introducing our latest iPROLEPSIS publication, "ChatGPT in Nutrition: Trends, Challenges, and Future Directions" , presented at PETRA 2024. This study explores the evolving role of AI in personalized nutrition. Abstract: A healthy and balanced diet is of paramount importance to the physical and psychological well-being of an individual, since unhealthy dietary choices have been linked with the occurrence of non-communicable diseases. Recent technological advances has led to the development of large language models, such as ChatGPT that has been widely adopted as a convenient tool for creating meal plans and obtaining nutritional information. This work aims to provide a thorough review of the scientific work performed so far regarding the use of ChatGPT in the field of nutrition. In this survey, the advantages and limitations of ChatGPT in different aspects of nutrition are pinpointed, while the challenges from the use of ChatGPT in nutrition are identified and discussed. Future research directions are also proposed to assist researchers towards the development of more effective nutrition recommendation systems. - AI-Driven Nutrition: Advanced Personal Dietary Recommendations through Deep Generative Models and ChatGPT | iPROLEPSIS
< BACK AI-Driven Nutrition: Advanced Personal Dietary Recommendations through Deep Generative Models and ChatGPT Jun 25, 2024 AI Nutrition Recommendation Using a Deep Generative Model and ChatGPT A recent scientific report titled "AI Nutrition Recommendation Using a Deep Generative Model and ChatGPT," authored by Ilias Papastratis, Dimitrios Konstantinidis, Petros Daras, and Kosmas Dimitropoulos, introduces a novel approach to personalised dietary recommendations. This research was conducted as part of the iPROLEPSIS project. Abstract: In recent years, major advances in artificial intelligence (AI) have led to the development of powerful AI systems for use in the field of nutrition in order to enhance personalized dietary recommendations and improve overall health and well-being. However, the lack of guidelines from nutritional experts has raised questions on the accuracy and trustworthiness of the nutritional advice provided by such AI systems. This paper aims to address this issue by introducing a novel AI-based nutrition recommendation method that leverages the speed and explainability of a deep generative network and the use of novel sophisticated loss functions to align the network with established nutritional guidelines. The use of a variational autoencoder to robustly model the anthropometric measurements and medical condition of users in a descriptive latent space, as well as the use of an optimizer to adjust meal quantities based on users’ energy requirements enable the proposed method to generate highly accurate, nutritious and personalized weekly meal plans. Coupled with the ability of ChatGPT to provide an unparalleled pool of meals from various cuisines, the proposed method can achieve increased meal variety, accuracy and generalization capabilities. Extensive experiments on 3000 virtual user profiles and 84000 daily meal plans, as well as 1000 real profiles and 7000 daily meal plans, demonstrate the exceptional accuracy of the proposed diet recommendation method in generating weekly meal plans that are appropriate for the users in terms of energy intake and nutritional requirements, as well as the easiness with which it can be integrated into future diet recommendation systems. - Initiation of the iPROLEPSIS-PDPID Study | iPROLEPSIS
< BACK Initiation of the iPROLEPSIS-PDPID Study Oct 22, 2024 Initiating Patient Enrollment for Psoriatic Arthritis Research The PsA digital phenotyping and inflammation drivers study (iPROLEPSIS-PDPID) has officially been initiated. The first patient was enrolled in the Netherlands in early September. The iPROLEPSIS-PDPID study focuses on using smart devices and clinical data to develop AI-driven models for personalised monitoring and flare prediction. This approach aims to empower patients by providing tools to better understand their condition. The study seeks to develop unobtrusive and affordable digital biomarkers capable of detecting changes in disease activity, including flares, and identifying their triggers in patients with psoriatic arthritis (PsA). The study is being conducted in four countries: the Netherlands, the UK, Portugal, and Greece. Patient recruitment is planned to start in the UK by the end of October, with recruitment in Greece and Portugal expected later this year. The miPROLEPSIS phone app is used in this study. The app is installed on patients' smartphones and acts as a data collection tool, which will be used to develop and train algorithms. The app measures physical activity, sleep duration, self-registered flares, and daily records of pain, fatigue, sleep quality, and morning stiffness. Additionally, the Garmin Vivoactive 5 smartwatch is used to collect data on physical activity, heart rate, heart rate variability, and sleep quality. 1/1 PREVIOUS NEXT

- "The Kite" Breathing Serious Game: Agile Co-Design for Psoriatic Arthritis | iPROLEPSIS
< BACK "The Kite" Breathing Serious Game: Agile Co-Design for Psoriatic Arthritis Jul 31, 2024 Enhancing PsA Management through Innovative Breathing Exercises and Game-Based Therapy Latest research initiative under the iPROLEPSIS project: “The Kite” Breathing Serious Game: Agile Co-Design for Psoriatic Arthritis presented at IEEE MELECON 2024. This study is part of a broader effort to develop and validate innovative digital biomarkers for managing Psoriatic Arthritis (PsA) through the Artificial Intelligence-Personalised Game Suite (AI-PGS). Abstract: Serious Games (SGs) have the potential to provide clinical care and enhance patients’ quality of life, while incorporating an element of entertainment. As part of the iPROLEPSIS Horizon Europe project, we introduce two Sensorimotor Art games designed as SGs to assist Psoriatic Arthritis (PsA) patients in managing their symptoms. These SGs provide a platform for self-expression and pain relief through engaging in rhythmic puzzle activities. The co-design process for the proposed Sensorimotor Art games followed an agile methodology, involving 14 experts (including clinicians, researchers, and game developers), to gather feedback on game requirements, storyboards, and mechanics. From the thematic analysis of the transcribed discussion, four main themes emerged, namely: Clinical value (Theme 1), Motor skills and adaptation (Theme 2), Creative engagement (Theme 3), and Feedback and future directions (Theme 4). Clinical value underlines the therapeutic benefits of Sensorimotor Art games for pain distraction and emotional well-being. Motor skills and adaptation focus on hand/finger use and adapting games for older patients. Creative engagement emphasizes fostering creativity, a positive environment, and goal achievement. Finally, feedback and future directions highlight the importance of continuous feedback and occupational therapists’ involvement in coming sessions. The development of Sensorimotor Art games lays the groundwork for digital interventions to alleviate psychological distress and improve fine motor symptoms in PsA patients. At the same time, these SGs can also provide insights to healthcare providers and policymakers for developing future digital solutions tailored to PsA patients.
