    < BACK iPROLEPSIS presented at the 15th Portuguese Rheumatology Congress Oct 27, 2023 iPROLEPSIS project and iPROLEPSIS-PDPID study presented at the 15th Portuguese Rheumatology Congress On October 27, 2023, the Portuguese Society of Rheumatology (SPR) , a dedicated partner of iPROLEPSIS , took the stage at the 15th Portuguese Rheumatology Congress (XXV Congresso Português de Reumatologia) , the event attended by around 700 individuals, mainly rheumatologists and GPs. Cátia Gonçalves, Reuma.pt Study Coordinator, and Ana M. Rodrigues, Reuma.pt National Coordinator and Assistant Professor at NOVA Medical School, provided a comprehensive overview of the iPROLEPSIS project, its goals, and clinical studies. They also introduced the iPROLEPSIS-PDPID study , focusing on PsA digital phenotyping and inflammation drivers. Portuguese Rheumatology centres were invited to participate in the iPROLEPSIS-PDPID study, marking a significant step in advancing our research.     < BACK iPROLEPSIS at IEEE-EMBS BSN 2025 Nov 6, 2025 Showcasing iPROLEPSIS at a leading international conference on body sensor research The IEEE-EMBS International Conference on Body Sensor Networks (IEEE-EMBS BSN 2025) took place in Los Angeles, USA, from 3–5 November 2025. The conference brings together researchers, clinicians, and industry representatives working on body sensor technologies and their applications in health and biomedical research. iPROLEPSIS was showcased at the event by project partner PLUX , which hosted a dedicated booth. The project was presented to an international audience, increasing its visibility within the body sensor and digital health research community.     < BACK Can ChatGPT provide appropriate meal plans for NCD patients? May 30, 2024 Assessing ChatGPT's Capability to Generate Personalised Meal Plans for Managing Non-Communicable Diseases Dietary habits significantly affect health conditions and are closely related to the onset and progression of non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Consequently, a well-balanced diet plays an important role in lessening the effects of various disorders, including NCDs. Several artificial intelligence recommendation systems have been developed to propose healthy and nutritious diets. Most of these systems use expert knowledge and guidelines to provide tailored diets and encourage healthier eating habits. However, new advances in large language models such as ChatGPT, with their ability to produce human-like responses, have led individuals to search for advice in several tasks, including diet recommendations. This study aimed to determine the ability of ChatGPT models to generate appropriate personalized meal plans for patients with obesity, cardiovascular diseases, and type 2 diabetes.     < BACK Modeling Interphalangeal Joints for Swelling Assessment in Psoriatic Arthritis via Smartphone Photographs Feb 5, 2026 New iPROLEPSIS publication presents a smartphone-based approach for remote joint swelling assessment in psoriatic arthritis A new publication from the iPROLEPSIS project has been published in the proceedings of the 2025 IEEE International Conference on E-health Networking, Application & Services (HealthCom) . The study investigates the use of smartphone photographs to support the remote assessment of swollen joints in patients with inflammatory arthritis, focusing on psoriatic arthritis. The proposed method classifies each interphalangeal joint in hand photographs as swollen or not swollen, supporting scalable and patient-friendly monitoring approaches.     < BACK The protocol for iPROLEPSIS-PDPID study approved in the Netherlands Nov 12, 2023 Ongoing preparation for iPROLEPSIS-PDPID study initiation In November 2023, the protocol for the PsA Digital Phenotyping and Inflammation Drivers Study (iPROLEPSIS-PDPID) received ethical approval In the Netherlands. Approvals in the UK, PT and GR are in progress. The research will be conducted in the Netherlands, the UK, Portugal and Greece. The primary objective of the iPROLEPSIS-PDPID is to establish a development cohort to create smartphone and smartwatch-based, AI-driven digital biomarkers for the remote assessment and monitoring of individuals with psoriatic arthritis. Two action types will occur in the development cohort: measure and predict. Measure: To develop novel smartphone and smart device digital biomarkers for the assessment of inflammatory symptoms with a particular focus on the recognition of changes in movement patterns, pain, fatigue, and morning stiffness in comparison to the gold standard – medical evaluation by clinical evaluation of the joints, tendons and skin. Predict: To predict the change from uninflamed to inflamed using three triggers that may cause longstanding inflammation in psoriatic arthritis patients at risk for flare. Those three triggers are stress, mechanical stress and changes in the gut microbiome. To achieve these objectives, iPROLEPSIS-PDPID will leverage cutting-edge technology and a comprehensive set of products, such as a mobile phone app and a smartwatch. The miPROLEPSIS phone app, which will be used in this study, is currently under development.     < BACK iPROLEPSIS, AI-PROGNOSIS & REBECCA: A Thematic Cluster on AI-Driven Digital Health Jul 17, 2025 Three EU-funded projects exploring real-world data, wearables, and personalised care in healthcare innovation Have you ever asked yourself how to make AI really effective along the patient journey? That was one of the first questions we asked ourselves when we launched our project. Along the way, we discovered we weren’t alone – many other research initiatives working with AI in healthcare were asking the same thing. That’s why we decided to take a step forward and create a cluster : a concrete way to collaborate, foster the impact of our solutions, and improve them through scientific exchange and an open science approach. AI-PROGNOSIS, iPROLEPSIS, and REBECCA – three EU-funded projects to advance patient-centric AI in healthcare. Focusing on Parkinson’s disease (PD), AI-PROGNOSIS is developing a suite of AI-powered tools for both patients and clinicians . These include early risk assessment, symptom monitoring, and medication support – based on real-world data from wearables and patient self-reports. It’s about enabling timely, data-driven decisions and bringing predictive analytics to the heart of primary care. iPROLEPSIS is building a comprehensive digital health ecosystem for psoriatic arthritis (PsA). It brings together a multisource biobank, a smartphone-based app powered by digital biomarkers and AI-driven predictive models, and an intervention module featuring therapeutic games, lifestyle coaching, and sleep support. The goal? To reshape the way we monitor and treat chronic inflammatory diseases through personalised mobile health solutions. Finally, REBECCA is working to improve long-term care for breast cancer survivors. By combining electronic health records with data from wearables and behaviour tracking , it generates real-world evidence on patients’ emotional, functional, and quality-of-life needs. Its explainable AI platform also supports caregivers and families via a dedicated app, empowering a more holistic approach to survivorship. What will we do together? We aim to contribute to the discussion on how AI-based digital health can support medical decision-making and real-time monitoring within daily hospital routines. I ntegrating AI into clinical practice is no easy task. Our solutions are designed to enable real-time health monitoring, informed decision-making, and disease management by leveraging biometric, behavioral, and clinical data –maximizing the impact along the patient journey. Another area of strong interest is the development of digital infrastructures that integrate wearable, clinical, behavioral, and environmental datasets. We believe these can be analyzed collectively through AI to generate real-world evidence and support both predictive and causal modeling – helping to guide research and inform treatment planning in more meaningful ways.     < BACK iPROLEPSIS Presented at Health Data Summit 2025 Mar 27, 2025 Showcasing practical strategies for high-quality data mapping and harmonisation At Health Data Summit 2025 , organised by the European Institute for Innovation Through Health Data (i~HD) on March 18–19 in Brussels , the iPROLEPSIS project was presented by Thanos Vidakis from AINIGMA Technologies . The presentation was part of the session titled: "Advanced Strategies and Tools for Ensuring High-Quality Data During Data Mapping". It focused on how iPROLEPSIS uses the OMOP Common Data Model (CDM) and OHDSI tools to harmonize health datasets from various sources. By applying coding standards such as SNOMED , the project ensures consistency and interoperability across data systems. The talk also highlighted recent hands-on workshops with data experts , during which real-world data was mapped to the OMOP model and underwent quality checks . These steps are essential in delivering analytics-ready health data — a key goal of the project. iPROLEPSIS continues to support high standards in digital health research by promoting data quality, standardisation, and collaboration across partners. 1/2 PREVIOUS NEXT

    < BACK iPROLEPSIS 3rd Plenary meeting successfully closed Dec 14, 2023 Navigating Progress: Highlights from the 3rd iPROLEPSIS Plenary Meeting in Rotterdam On 12-13 December 2023 , the iPROLEPSIS consortium gathered for the 3rd plenary meeting in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. The agenda included: Four workshops External Advisory Board session Clinical studies overview, including PDPID study, Mast cells and optoacoustic-enabled joint and microvascular imaging (iPROLEPSIS-MOJMI) study, HPOS, and iPROLEPSIS integration General assembly session Overview of work packages with progress updates Strategic planning for the next steps.
